foundational tropes
split personality - tortured to fragmentation.
tyke bomb - he was made in a lab in an attempt to control time. the evol mutated and caused a team of scientists working on him to be “absorbed,” killing them and converting their energy into “years to his life.”
dark and troubled past - to research the mutated form of his evol, a second team of researchers stepped up and exposed him to deepspace tunnels, repeatedly killing him to activate his pre-mutation evol. in general, they conducted many experiments on him to understand the limits of his evol. these experiments oftentimes ended in his death and eventual rebirth.
accidental murder - when he was experimented on, his evol automatically took the “life energy” from around him to rewind his body to a state before he was killed. the energy used in this “rewind” process was transferred from the researchers around him, eventually slowly killing them all, much like the first group of researchers albeit more slowly.
trauma-induced amnesia - “he” retains no memories of being tortured and killed but has some abilities from before he was put in the killing-cycle. for example, he can play the piano and draw to some extent due to a researcher teaching him in the past. he has significant headaches and tremors if he attempts to recall his past.
what is this thing you call love? - oblivious to rafayel’s feelings. it’s part of their dynamic.
general tropes -
comically missing the point- takes things way too literally.
constantly curious - curious by nature but shy when it comes to asking questions. he prefers to do the research by himself so he appears more knowledgeable. he actively avoids asking people questions and oftentimes makes statements that can be agreed or disagreed upon.
covert pervert - makes genuine comments that can sometimes be interpreted the wrong way. it’s too much for rafayel’s heart.
genius sweet tooth - he really likes flan.
good is not nice - he genuinely tries to be morally upstanding and heroic but is usually blunt enough for it to be considered rude. one of his life goals is to be a hero to others.
the nicknamer - he doesn’t like being attached to others and regularly gives people ridiculous nicknames so he doesn’t have to remember their real names. he refers to people by their real name if he respects them or cares about them.
professor guinea pig - the specifics of his evol was left unclear after he was adopted by josephine. he ended up learning about his evol by using it on himself. while he is unaware of its true capabilities, the current description of his evol is known to him by his own self-experimentations alongside his manslaughter attempts on caleb. (it really was an accident)
plagued by nightmares - he primarily dreams about vague depictions of his deaths. because of this, he has trouble sleeping. eventually, he no longer has dreams at all because his “other self” is the one to have these nightmares for him.
too kinky to torture - he’s used to pain due to his evol. he will try to hide it, but he gets excited when threatened with a fight.
i work alone - although his evol is an anhausen class with its optimal usage being to transfer energy to other evolvers, he despises working with others because of how volatile his evol’s transfer is. on the opposite end, he doesnt mind unfair fights where he gets the short end of the stick.
