this link is my stance on caleb in case caleb mains want to interact with me
i say “calebs route” as in a focus on caleb and his specific mc
about caleb:
• i play the game in english
• i dont main caleb
• if that makes you angry you can stop reading here (or go to my tldr)
• in main story my understanding of him is that he never wanted to be viewed as mcs brother but played the role willingly out of wanting to fit in with mcs “normal” childhood
• when he dies and comes back as the colonel it symbolizes the death of his role as a brother and begins his chance to “start over” with her (its also not like he had a choice but it was either that or actual permadeath)
• a main theme of his is having to play a certain “version” of himself- with the oldest version having feelings for mc. he considers this version of himself to be the worst version because he knows he shouldnt be feeling this way (as her brother)
• in “calebs route” i dont view them as siblings as i believe caleb and his mc would want to break away from their sibling relationship into something that is not a burden for them to navigate through
• “calebs route” being forbidden and guilt-ridden is especially highlighted by the shameful repercussions of such a drastic change in relationship status not just for them but also for the people close to them
• the tension of his route comes from blurring/getting rid of the familial bond, NOT leaning into the bond as a romantic foundation (reminder that this is my interpretation) - the focus in his route is watching him and his mc move on from their past and into what they currently are
• while the original translation plays into their sibling relationship (and psuedo-incest) more i personally am uncomfortable with it so i have chosen to interpret him differently (plus english localization has no clue what they want to do with him anyway)
• i have reiterated 3 times now that i understand my interpretation of him is probably different from the original translation and if you have failed to understand that this is my interpretation and not heavenly law then i dunno what else to tell you
• he needs therapy
• mc also needs therapy
• i havent finished the netherlord myth and im not gonna lie i genuinely dont know if i should even bother
• im not a safe space for baby sisters
tldr
i dont support incest and in my interpretation caleb does not want to be mcs brother anymore if he is being pursued by mc
