Cobalt had a pretty rough upbringing, coming from generally judgemental parents who either disciplined him too much or not enough. this led Cobalt to have a rather under-disciplined and easily (bad) influenced personality, but on the good side he quite confident about himself.
his father was one of the bad influences in life, letting cobalt see and consume things definitely not appropriate at a young age and he was also neglectful. so, Cobalt would develop being somewhat emotionally detached or lacking empathy, even if he is emotionally ‘available’ to the people he likes. also around this time he probably develops the more inappropriate and crude side of his personality.
somewhere along the road, Cobalt enters the military, a war happens, he becomes a fugitive with basically nothing- espcially financially. he hardly has any friends to turn to, because well his closest friends drifted apart around highschool to college.
going further down that road, Rick finds Cobalt and promises him a large sum of money to basically kill his biggest enemies, one of which was the leader or something of the ongoing war. Cobalt did have expirience with killing people and firearms and whatnot, but not at all is he professional or polished, and yet he stitll took up the offer.
He now has a huge goddamn responsibility in his hands but miraculously ends up killing maybe 2⁄3 of rick’s desired targets (at the time. theres probably more now LOL)
but oh well Cobalt is a stupid and doesnt know how to regulate stress so he pimps himself out not just in work but also yep sexual labor trying to make a living other than relying on rick. he tries to convince himself it’s stress relieving, as he expiriences attraction sexually quickly anyway, even though the people he’s fucking hardly respects him
he DOES like it to an extent, he just doesn’t know how to set boundaries or atleast just…idont know…try to find other ways? instead of pricing his body?
this ends up with him often being exploited, especially with his reputation as both a fugitive and an assasin. he ends up doubling his work because clients start giving him targets too, even though they’re not paying him more.
he’d try arguing maybe, negotiating that he can’t do that BUT that ends up with him getting physically harmed in the end.
but one of his clients that pays him without even actually fucking him is Sam. who maybe is a close friend from highschool or something. Sam decides to let Cobalt live with him for free, instead making him pay through other means unless he decides to pay monetarily.
So um yeah ok that’s hell
