Date of Report: December 15

Complainant: Mrs. Erich Rosen

Record of Incident:

Upon receiving a complaint from Mrs. Erich Rosen of 29 Norfolk Street, Edgbaston, alleging a disturbance of a violent nature at the adjoining premises, 28 Norfolk Street (the residence of the Barrieres), two constables were immediately dispatched to investigate. Their inquiry revealed the matter to be a domestic altercation between Mr. and Mrs. Barriere. At the time of the officers’ arrival, Mr. Reger Barriere was in an agitated and ungovernable condition, refusing all cooperation. Owing to the risk posed by his behavior, he was taken into custody at the station for isolation and observation. Subsequent examination of Mrs. Rosa Barriere and her daughter, Miss Lily Barriere, disclosed grounds for suspicion of assault. Mrs. Barriere was found to bear several older contusions and extensive bruising; similar though lighter marks were observed upon the limbs of her daughter. It is further noted that during the interview, Miss Lily Barriere exhibited extreme nervous instability. Although both she and her mother strenuously denied it, there appeared upon the child’s person indications suggestive of self-inflicted injury. It is therefore recommended that the matter be referred to the appropriate charitable institution for the protection of children, which may determine whether medical or psychological intervention is warranted.

Recorded by: Constable No. 1503

Disposition: The complainant having withdrawn the charge, and no party choosing to pursue further action, the case has been filed as void.
