his earliest memory, his mother, karmen segovia, a 32-year-old filipina running through the heavy streets of yeosu-si with a 2-year-old karson clinging to her chest. they were fleeing a home marked with violence and unspoken rules, the kind that turned life into a prison.
karson grew up in the philippines with a mother who is a ghost of her former, ambitious self who often goes quiet during the sunsets.. mourning the life she might’ve had if not for an accidental child.
and so, karson learned to grow up fast, too fast that his mind stretched beyond his years, counting the weight of things long before he could count on his fingers. by the time he could add the numbers, his mind already knew the cost of staying alive.
